Elizabeth Owen was born about 1825, in North Nibley, Gloucestershire, the child of George and unknown mother.
In the 1841 census, she is shown aged 16. No trade is shown. Her father George was a wool weaver. Her father is presumably a widower at 40 as no wife is shown. She has two brothers, John aged 15 and Alfred aged 14.
She married Joseph Brown on July 5, 1846, in North Nibley, Gloucestershire. They had seven children in 14 years.
The banns were published in December 1844. They were not married until July 1846.
We sought an explanation for this. We received a birth certificate for their first child, Mary. She was born in May 1846. Presumably, they had delayed the marriage until after this child was born.
The 1851 census shows the family living at Upper Wick, Alkington, Gloucestershire.
Elizabeth died in April 1870 at the age of 45.
Note on lineage.
An Ancestry.com member, a member of the Owen family, Bob Owen of Kent, has traced the lineage in which Elizabeth sits, back to a William Owen in 1635. It’s not known where he was born but, all of the generations between him and Elizabeth, six in all, came from North Nibley in Gloucestershire. That’s where Elizabeth comes from and where she married into the Brown family when she married Joseph, who was to become the gamekeeper.
